Right now my 1st grader has to read at least an hour a week, so every night we would set this for 15 minutes (yes, I know it’s more than an hour a week but reading is never bad!) and he can just look up from his book to get an idea of how much time he has left to read! This is great for centers, timing tests, play time, homework time, music practice, chore time, reading time or whatever else you need to time both at home and in the classroom. The red, yellow, and green sections are VERY familiar to kids and each section lights up during it’s usage. You can actually set an alarm (anywhere from 1 minute to 24 hours) so that the student can see and here the time left for their activity.

Learning Resources has this Magnetic Time Tracker which is great for allowing the students and instructor to not only track time visually but also audibly. Since it was our first time using it I gently reinforce these ideas every couple minutes just to draw his attention to it.Kids are visual little beings – I won’t lie – I am too! So anytime you can encourage learning or routine with some sort of visual factor I find that it has a bigger impact with the majority of kids. This will make me use the red light time for clean up. After it lights red it for the time it then sounds an alarm turning all lights off. I reinforced green means go (let's play), yellow for clean up or almost all done (depending on the pace he needed to get used to the idea of next step). Once for transitioning through morning routines and before nap. He has recently has some big changes and his anxiety has become so bad. He loves colors and in order for him to "get it", I figured colors would help. It was our first time using a timer for transitions and I thought it would be a great one to start with. Despite the low rating I ordered this for my just turned 3 SPD little. Too bad there is something in the programming of this devise that causes it to just fail for no good reason. The concept is great (which is the reason I gave it any stars at all) in that the product visually shows the time is decreasing as the colors change and I was psyched to have it in my classroom. Please if you're wondering if you should purchase this, listen to this comment and the others that it's not a great product. However, the comments about it breaking or not being a reliable product are true. I had read the reviews and felt I could handle the comments that it's complicated to set controls.

Not due to user confusion, rather defect in product.

After this occurred, I was unable to reset the timer accordingly.

From the yellow, it never turned red when there was 1 minute left, as I set the timer to do two days ago (through manual timer mode). As it continued to count down, it never sounded when green turned to yellow. First "two" days it worked great! Went into school today and green light was locked on, yet I never start the timer. I'm currently teaching summer school so put it to use right away this past week. I purchased this timer for my classroom as a visual and audio timer for when students have a 15 minute break. That is the only thing I would change about it.My daughter loves it and its helping her to learn time awareness.ĥ The Poor Reviews Are True, I Thought Others Were Just Unfortunate - Not The Case! It makes a non optional beep when it switches from yellow to red. No, it's not as easy as a manual egg timer, but it is as easy as any digital timer I've used. You CAN stop the timer once you've started it.You CAN pause the timer. You CAN set a sound at the beginning, at the switch from green to yellow, and at the end. I was hesitant to but this after reading the reviews here on Amazon, but I'm glad I did!It is super easy to set the clock and timers.
